How Wind Turbines Are Built

Working hundreds of meters above water with components longer than an A380 wingspan and heavier than a steam engine, engineers building the latest generation of wind turbines routinely overcome head-spinning obstacles.

Is it really wobbly up there? Do some turbines actually float?

The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combines them in creative ways.

Idk why I was thinking about how wind turbines were built at 4:30am but thank you for the extra knowledge 😂

It's a complete eye sore and as the narrator said at the beginning of this video there is nothing environmentally friendly about building one of these, just the amount of quality steel that goes into them, steel I make at the mill I work at that is anything but green, I know people will say we have electric arc furnaces and they are starting to develop hydrogen powered blast furnaces, , , good luck, I wish you well but for right now we use coal, iron ore, we love coal at the mill, we burn it till it becomes coke and use that in our blast furnaces coal is the best thing I've ever seen this planet make only way to make steel, good steel is from scratch, raw material and it takes a lot of fossil fuels, I welcome something new but we just haven't got there yet.

I wanted some vertical axis wind turbines too but good all the same

Definitely inspiring monuments to human engineering and the obvious choice for clean, renewable energy. Studies show that wind power will make up >35% of our world's total energy production by ~2050.

Thank you for this! Traveled to Germany recently and saw these everywhere, was wondering how do they built them!! So amazing!

I love wind turbines. To me they look super futuristic. And most importantly, they have the lowest CO2 emissions per kwh energy produced.

Ugly, loud, killing birds. My cousin been renovating blades in East Asia. After 2 years at see or at shore, they begin to disintegrate. There is lot of pollution from detached material from the blades ....

I do not bother about wind turbines in the landscape. How do make electricity ? Nuclear power is not wished because of nuclear waste. Coal power is not wished because CO2 and air pollution. Wind power is also not wished because everything is not wished. So the people should be more tolerant against wind turbines. A good remedy is to give the people living beside wind turbines some financial share. So they are happy, that they can earn some money with "their wind turbines".

They are beautiful! I wish I lived where I could look out my window and see them every day!

Thank you. I am incredibly amazed. Wow!

What about the landfills and the turbine blades that don't EVER go back to mother earth? They should go back to aluminum so that they can be melted and made into other things or blades again. Nothing can be done to fiberglass blades once they are bad.

Thanks for the excellent video. Considering all that goes into building them and considering how little energy they produce, I cannot imagine that a windmill could be a net positive energy producer unless it operates at max capacity for a million years.

I always wondered are these things heavier than 4014

uhhhh someone might want to tell the wind farm operator that their turbines at 6:18 are spinning backwards!

More importantly, how are they recycled.
