This is really important concept that I’m glad you brought up. Romanticizing something bad can create a cycle of problems.

Movies like Fight Club, Taxi Driver, Bladerunner 2049, Joker, Drive, American Psycho, are not only really good movies but also warnings, Tyler Durden, Travis Bickle, Arthur Fleck and Patrick Bateman are the last thing you wanna be. They are the product of exploited, tired, destroyed and meaningless lives. They are all warnings to you to not let your life become meaningless.

I idolize people I want to be. Like David Goggins or Wim Hof. I want to be like them that's better than idolizing a fictional character I think

Amen brother. We have got to stop our obsession with songs that fuel our depression. There’s a time for everything, and there’s a time to move on.

I've had my fair share of run ins with these literally me characters. But for me it's like therapy, I'll use the songs to help me filter my emotions and let them flow with the music. It helps me with getting through the emotion by putting a song behind it.

Honestly one of the best takes ever, I found myself doing exactly that, romanticising a depression I didn't have and I was doing nothing, acting like a sack of meat feeling bad for myself, however when I started doing the same thing but with separate characters, namely guts who manages to power through and endure through sheer willpower and since then I've started going gym consistently.

Better characters to like are ones who feel the sadness and the lonliness, but despite that, or by using that, they are strong and stoic and taking action

"I'm literally Ryan Gosling", but since I see more and more happy Ryan Gosling edits, that's better

It's not about idolizing, it's about relating to. It's about seeing on the bigscreen someone going through the struggle of being a complete loser and nobody, which is a status quo of many men yet we usually don't talk about these things. So it's nice to ventilate it through media in a catharthic way.

The main character in fight club was the narator or edward nortons character who they dont really name. At the end of the movie hes shown to do the right thing, knowing tyler was wrong. Theres a lot of lessons in that movie to learn from as well I think.

Yes. It's interesting if it relates to you and somehow you'll feel understood and less lonely about what you're going through. But this is not for you to embrace or romanticize with. It's honestly a shitty thing to deal with, and the point of it is to not be like this or to get out of it if you are in one.

This dude actually speaks facts he says the stuff everyone scared to say or accept. It’s so true now a days depression/anxiety/a lot of mental illnesses are romanticized by our favorite rappers and celebrities and it leads to people almost wanting to be depressed so they can relate to a character or artist of theirs. I’ve been noticing that for a while but this guy explained it perfectly.
