This scene aged very, very, very well. Terrifying.

it's funny that he does his batman voice even though fox already knows his identity

Lucius Fox is more ethical than any company in the real world. I can respect that.

"At what cost?" I love that line from Fox, he understands that there are some lines that shouldn't be crossed.

With this scene, The Dark Knight becomes a complete Parallel to Alfred's story:-
1) Alfred tried to buy off the loyalties of bandits with Rubies when he was with the CIA, Batman and Gordon tried to eradicate organized crime with Lau's help.
2) The bandit had been throwing the Rubies away as he thought it was good sport, the Joker burnt the Mob's money saying Gotham deserved a better class of criminals.
3)Alfred tried to track down the bandit but in 6 months couldn't meet anyone who traded with him, Batman thought the Joker must have friends but Maroni stated that the kind of person the Joker was, he was incapable of having friends.
4) Alfred eventually found the bandit by burning the forest down while Bruce applies Fox's sonar concept on every cellphone in Gotham as a last-ditch attempt to find and stop the Joker.

This scene was one of the best moments of dark knight, Bruce asks Lucious to type in his name that shows how much respect Bruce has for him and also how much he understands Lucious (he knew Fox wouldn’t approve of it)

Fox: "Mr Wayne, do you really have to speak to me in that voice?"
Batman: "GOTHAM NEEDS ME!"

This is the best scene in The Dark Knight. It is the first time I as an audience member can question the ethics and morality of Batman. Batman is proudly spying on innocent people without their knowledge, much like an Orwellian telescreen, and Lucius Fox has to be the voice of reason to rightly castigate him for this. Do the ends really justify the means?

Gotham is a forest.

The Joker is an anarchist bandit.

Batman by doing this, is burning the forest down to flush the Joker out of hiding to catch him at all costs.

"When you're finished, type in your name."

That line always stayed with me for some reason. Probably because it's one of the only times his raspy voice sounds cool!

"..Type in your name"
"Like full name or first name? and is it case sensitive? What about middle initial?"

Batman’s one rule was not to kill. Nothing in there about spying lol.

But in all seriousness, Bruce knew he would need this tech one day, and The Joker forced his hand. Wayne knew the dangers of this machine, and that Fox wouldn’t approve. That’s why, when Fox typed in his name, it self-destructed. He built it for one purpose, and that purpose was fulfilled, and Fox’s trust was rewarded.

I’ve always wondered something. Lucius says “spying on 30 million people isn’t part of job description” so is this saying there are 30 million people living in Gotham?
