My toxic trait is thinking I’d be at the top of the leaderboard for amount of debris thrown off the roof

"The Soviet people have had enough of this accident." I love how he said that, likes it some minor pest or gang that's commiting arbitrary crimes. An enemy.

I actaully heard that these men did survive. Due to following the strict rules they were given to stay safe.

The best part is him telling everyone NOT TO LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE REACTOR. And every now and then some of the workers stayed dangerously close to the edge and i was like "Oh god please dont you fucking do it" lmao

Heroes, just heroes. I have huge respect for them who did this hard task.

They weren’t given 90 seconds they were told to take a shovel and throw a scoop off and into the reactor and then immediately head back in and go through decontamination and then do it again a few days later but some threw two scoops or even more

12, 000 Roentgen per hour. 90 seconds of working gives 300 roentgen dose.

For reference, max permitted dose per year for radiation worker is 50mSv (5 roentgen). Lowest dose clearly linked to cancer is 100mSv (10 roentgen). At 4000mSv (400 roentgen) it would be fatal dose unless treatment received, 50% probability lethal. 800 roentgen is 100% lethal.

Meanwhile, Akimov, his team and the firefighters received upwards of 1, 100 - 1, 500 roentgen. It was not survivable.

Legasov himself took 150 roentgen from his site visits.

There are conflicting sources about Dytalov's radiation dose. Some said 100 roentgen, some said 650. Either way, he survived.

It's hilarious that the general of the Red Army has a Yorkshire accent

The soldiers and volunteers who did this were brave. I hope the ones who died received pensions for their families.
