Awesome review. I remember when I first saw Emma, I was underwhelmed by it but on multiple rewatches I started loving it and it's now one of my favorite movies of 2020. Anya Taylor-Joy knocked it out of the park and 2020 is her shining year with this and especially The Queen's Gambit which that show put her to be one of my favorite actresses of all time. This is the most underrated movie of 2020. Also unpopular opinion, this is my favorite Jane Austen movie.

I think I need to give this one another chance. To me, the portrayal of Emma seemed too mean and the risks felt too much (and I just don’t want to see a nosebleed in my Austen movie!) However, I was strongly against the Kiera Knightly Pride & Prejudice when I first saw it but I rewatched it in the beginning of the pandemic and I loved it (the Colin Firth one will always be superior though ;) So I might need to do the same with this one and then I’ll like it more :-)

Jk Rowling said Emma was a very big influence on her. I don’t really see how though. The main character was really obnoxious. Like Spencer, just a lifeless film. I remember watching it with my ex and just being bored. It was pretty with lots of pastels (it shows that the director is a professional photographer) but just… nothing happened. There were several people snoring loudly in the theater. I told myself, I should give period chick flicks a chance. Let me tap into my feminine side. Boy, was I wrong. I did not know what the director was going for because scenes just happened but there was no energy.
I needed some Jackie Chan action! 😆
