Steps to unlock the Protected Excel VBA project

Step 1
Make a copy of your Macro enabled xlsm/xlsb workbook to .xls.

Step 2
Open the .xls file using notepad++. Find the word "DPB" and replace that with "DPx". Save the file and close it

Step 3

Go to VBA Project- Tools- VBA Project properties. Unchecked the option Lock project for viewing in the Protection tab. Save and close the workbook

Thank you so much for this video!!! I finally able to open my file that was locked since 2011 because I forgot the password. Wow!!!
Who would figure out we need to replace DPB with DPX, we will never know this.

Just a few pointers to share:
1) Are you aware you saved your xlb file as Break VBA password.xls but then you use Big Data.xls to perform the DPB/DPX text replacement? And then you open Break VBA password.xls to access the VBAProject.Properties Protection tab to untick the Lock Project for viewing. So that is abit strange there. Anyway.

2) After I untick the Lock Project for viewing. I don't need to export all the bas modules out. I actually save the same file as xlsm and able to view all my vba modules intact within the file.
