As much as i like it, sometimes you need to pull arbitrary lengths of wire because measuring precisely is not reasonably timed, and adding a connector each time is too complicated. Stripping some wire and screwing it in the terminal directly will save my fingers from needless fidgeting, especially after doing rough work like taking out ceiling tiles (some are a real pain) or even drilling through them. Maybe its worth is in complicated or modular systems that need to be changed more often, but i can't think of any applications off the top of my head.
