How to use a CO2 tire inflator

Threaded Co2 cartridges are available at most bike shops, or even for real cheap on Amazon. Some inflators work with non threaded cartridges, but the threaded ones are more popular, and a lot more reliable in my opinion. This attachment just screws on to the end and punctures the cartridge.

How you fix your flat is your business, but I usually use patches when I’m out on the trails. Road bike tubes are pretty small, but mountain bike tubes are just too bulky for me to carry everywhere. Once you’ve made your repair, just tighten the Co2 cartridge on real tight, and you’re ready to go. When you release the Co2, the cartridge will get super cold due to the decompression. It gets so cold that it could actually burn your skin, so you should hold it with part of your shirt, or grab on to something other than the cartridge itself. Some inflators cover the cartridge to protect you.

It’s important to note that Co2 is designed to get you through the day, and you should fill your tire with normal air when you get home. The Co2 molecules can pass through your valve stem and rubber more easily than air, so within 24 hours it will likely be flat again. Check the description for everything you need to get started, and thanks for watching. I’ll see you next time.

@1:10 - Wrap a few layers of duct tape around the CO2 cartridge…
- insulation for cold cartridge.
- duct tape can be peeled off to use when needed.

Thanks for the info man. I've used CO2 to fill my tires before and its always flat the next day. You confirmed what I had thought about it leaking out quickly.

The good ol days of tubes. Unfortunately, now with tubeless I still carry a spare tube in case of a sidewall rip

The inflator you use here is the "Genuine Innovations Air Chuck Elite" which fits both Presta and Schrader valves, it also has a simple push for fill release to stop feature that allows controlled inflation. Its the best made simplest to use inflator i know of and weighs just 17grams.

Just had to come back to this video and say thanks. I started riding with a saddle bag and the same gear a while ago after watching this. Totally paid off today with a nail in the tube at the furthest point in my daily ride.

might be worth mentioning that you might want to get 20g or 25g cartridges for use with MTB tires, especially if you're riding a 29er. 16g cartridges or smaller usually won't give you a complete fill

If you use a mini pump to partially inflate the tube, then use a CO2 cartridge, will it overfill and burst the tube, or will it just stop at a certain pressure before exploding?

Great exposition on the cartridges. I kept wondering why I see these at the bike stores. I looked it up and found this video and another one. On the other videos, they guy kept talking about his 'boyk" and completely misspelled "tire". Weird.
