How To Measure Your Bra Size

Lilianna Mann, professional bra fitter extraordinaire - shows us a step-by-step guide on how to measure your own bra size.

*1st measurement is for the band size. Erin's band size = 36"
*2nd measurement is to help determine the cup size. Across the largest part of Erin's bust = 40"
*Count the # of inches between the 1st and 2nd measurements, so 40 - 36 = 4

This will tell you how many letters to count, starting with A, then B, C, D, E, F and so on. We know we have to count 4 letters, so we know Erin's cup size is a D.
**Add that to the 1st measurement and you get a 36D**

Adding +4 is an outdated method so is measuring the above bust method which only works for cup size B, but not for others. In the past bra band lacked elasticity due to poor quality hence, underbust +4/+5 (for odd no.s) were used to measure.
However with improved quality of bra bands now this method is outdated. Just measure the under bust size (below breast) example 32 and fullest part of breast - example 38. Cup size would be 38 minus 32 equal to 6, that is F.
A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E or DD=5, F or DDD=6, G=7, etc. Hence bra size would be 32F or 32DDD.
There is also something called sister sizing,
32F = 34E = 36D = 38C = 40B are all equal.
When band size is increase, cup size decrease - for non availability in your sizes for extreme sizing. However best to use bra size closest to your bandsize for perfect fitting. Too much info, just have researched over the years for comfort and support. Hope it helps!

Please start using an underbust measurement. The over bust measurement has nothing to do with where a bra band sits and will result in a too large band and a too small cup. The lady shown for demonstration was probably closer to a 34F or FF. It's unfortunate you're perpetuating outdated sizing that serves only to help put more women into limited size ranges that won't give them a snug band or cup depth needed for proper support.

This is confusing, aren't you supposed to measure band size under the breast above waist? Most brands do that, but I noticed Hanes size chart uses the same method above the chest like you did.
If I use your method, bra band size changes by 4 inches.
