There are now two ways to share a game made using the free version of GameMaker. You can publish games to Opera's GXC, and while there's no monetization there yet, they've said they're looking into it. And of course since GM is free, someone can always download GM to test someone's games as well.

Neither of these solutions are perfect, since both require a download (either GameMaker or Opera GX) and they won't work in all situations (e.g. some jams require a desktop version) but they are both free and might work for some people.

So basically, you make the game for free, reveal the concept for kickstarter, then use the funds to improve upon and release the full game

They used to give Game maker 1.4 for free in steam but you can't add it to your account now

If anybody's watching this now, they updated it so now you can use HD games, windows, apple, and mobile

You can tentically by sending a yyp file tentically and they can play it but saves files eont work sadly

It’s a pretty good double edged sword
You have all these tools yet the game you made with said tools can’t be shown to the world
That means that many hidden gems or many bad apples
