I had the 5th Gen 4runner. Solid yet dated engine. I own the 24 LC, and it's fantastic. I will give the argument for longevity to the 4Runner. The new iforce system is too new to judge in terms of being able to last. The LC is incredibly smooth and has plenty of power to get up and go.

I chose the 2024 4runner myself. The Land Cruiser felt like it had less space inside and the hybrid drivetrain felt weird and jerky.

4:22 Good demonstration of 4Runner’s better ground clearance and departure angle.

Listen to the door closings at 5:32 and 12:23…advantage 4Runner.

Yesterday, I got inside both a new 4runner and the new Land Cruiser. When I closed the door on the 4 runner it was like a Lexus vault. When I did the same on the Land Cruiser, it wasn’t even close. There had to be some type of lower quality material used.

4runner all day long ...plus the LandCruiser requires premium fuel no thanx

I just purchased the 4Runner TRD Pro over the Land Cruiser for these 2 reasons: #1 While sitting my 6'5" frame in the drivers seat of the Land Cruiser (all trim models), my right knee did not fit between the steering wheel and the large center console. You can see at 7:00 on the video the console padding that is between the steering wheel that takes up all the wiggle room. I'm talking snug. Also at 7:40 you can see just how big the console is...why? Come on Toyota, if this vehicle is made for the USA market, why leave out tall people? The 2024 4Runner has way more leg room (side-to-side movement). #2 I would rather the known reliability of of the non-turbo/non-hybrid engine that is in the 4Runner. I'm paying more for a Toyota because of one reason, reliability and frankly I'm not hearing good things about the new drivetrains.

I still bought a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro 3 months ago and no complaints

Having owned Multiple 4Runner’s and now the new LC mid-level, very hard for me to go backwards. The LC is definitely a step up by far, the only downside I question is the reliability, not a crazy fan on the feel of the new 4cyl hybrid. Now if Toyota was smart and they were to add as an option the GX550 6 cyl, the new LC would be far superior. Time will tell.

New technology doesn't make new vehicles better. It is a simple as that. A bigger screen doesn't equal better. A locker that no one uses doesn't make a vehicle driven on roads better. Reliability and dependability do make vehicles better!

The Land Cruisers new TSS 3.0 coupled with a better driving position, 4wd capability (disconnecting sway bar and locking diff), better ride feel and improved rear seat (air conditioning and headroom) made it a simple answer for me. I like the 4Runner and almost bought it but I had 2019 Tacoma… nothing wrong with the 4Runner but the LC is updated Japanese engineering.

The 4Runner has the old-school hydraulic steering which adds to its unique character.
The LC is more numb with its electronic steering so I’m sure that is a part of what you felt driving it.

I want Toyota to succeed with their new engines and transmissions but they have to prove themselves like in the previous generations.

I own a 2023 4Runner SR5 and it is a beast! Does everything I need it to plus more, and I have 3rd row seating!

I agree with everything said previously about the 4Runner (owner of 2014 since new). And i am looking at a new LC250 as an upgrade in the next yr to 18 months. however, the 4Runner does one thing about as well as anything (along with the Lex GX)...it always works/never breaks down, for years and years. So im giving the LC250 a couple years to see if its reliable in the world...if it is, ill go for one. if it has issues, then ill just go buy a later model year TRD Pro (upgrading from my SR5) with all of its panache, and be happy about it for another 10+ trouble-free years. I dont mind that its slow, i roadrace and ride motorcycles when i want some speed in my life.

Owned 3 4runners in the past and loved my time with them. I now own a LC 250 and so far it's a more enjoyable ride

The 5th gen 4Runner has already become a vintage car. A masterpiece that dragged the age of good craftsmanship as long as it could. 2024 is the end of history for good old car engineering. What’s ahead of us is curated for the flashy generation. I guess we’re slowly getting old.

Lets be honest about the 4Runner, its slow and underpowered, the drivetrain which is extremely dependable but is really showing its age. At higher elevations, the engine is practically screaming trying to get as much air as possible. I am a 4Runner owner and can be honest about what is good and bad about it.
