Many times. I prefer this type of shot. They 99.9% of the time go down.

If you mean kill an elk or deer with an offhand shot, yes. Blacktail deer at 80 yards with a .243. If you mean kill an elk or deer with a high shoulder shot, yes, same blacktail deer. When a round strikes the big scapula on an elk or deer, the round causes a tremendous amount of shock to the nerve bundle surrounding the scapula that it often immediately kills the animal.

Looked like a forward glancing neck shot, just missing the right shoulder to me. I could be wrong. Definitely a kill shot!!!

What was the weapon caliber and where exactly WAS the bullet entrance hole???

Fortunately, I have done this on 4 separate deer.! At the age of 71 it's a blessing not to have to track an animal.

You should always be carefull with these kinds of shots. It depends on where you hit the spine. Sometimes they go down instantly but get up after a while. I do not know what you call it in english, but in german its called "Krellschuss".
