Wilson Electronic Sleek 3G/4G Cell Phone Booster [RedFerret Review]

Notes-

- Works with both 3G and 4G signals.

- The Wilson Electronics Cell Phone Booster attaches to the roof of your vehicle and hasa cable that you must run back into the interior of your car. For most vehicles you will be able to hide the small cable inside of your weather strip and then under your floor mat.

- It requires external power through 12V source (what we used to call a cigarette lighter).

- You phone then clamps into the cradle, which in turn acts to boost your signal.

- While the cell phone booster is far more effective while it is in the cradle - it does seem to help boost the signal of all of the devices in the vehicle. Some kind of ambient effect?

- The device comes with a permanent mount, which uses an sticky patch to lock the mount in place on the dash.

- The cable connector from the antenna does get very warm. While it doesn't get hot enough to burn it does get uncomfortably warm.

- You will want to disconnect the power source when you leave the vehicle otherwise it will slowly drain the battery.

- While it is designed primarily for vehicles, it can also be used in other locations. You will need to have a spot to mount the antenna and a 5V external power source (a computer USB, an electrical socket USB adapter or an external powerbank)

- Also comes with a USB port to act as a USB charger for your devices.

Recommendation - The Wilson Electronics Cell Phone Booster is a very effective way to help boost your cell phone coverage. While the device has a few features that I am not enamored with it is still a great way to boost your coverage.

The reason for the connector being excessively hot is due the VSWR mismatch. The reflective signal of the incident is not propagated correctly and is part of the design flaw tradeoff of this type of antenna and coaxial quasi TEM transition. A better design would be the use of ferrite isolator in single channel mode use (TX) and or (RX).

In BC at Sugar lake had no bars at all campsite host had one of these for 3g. I put my phone in cradle gave me 2 bars to be able to text my family which camp we were at.
Otherwise they were driving around for over an hour.
(I had arrived earlier to reserve site)
My wife got my text in an area that gave reception for a minute and got my directions and was able to find me.
I just ordered one of these 2x days ago.
I'm sold!
We do enough outings were this would be of use.

That "stick-on" mount actually comes off your dashboard clean. I have this same one in a work truck, and it's been mounted for 2 years. Just got a new truck last week, and when I peeled off the adhesive pad, it rolled off smooth and left zero residue. It's a solid mount that won't come off, but it's not quite permanent.

Amazon sells the "Wilson Gooseneck Suction Cup Mount for Wilson Cradle Plus". Attach that to a "Garmin Portable Friction Mount - Frustration Free Packaging " sandbag type dashboard mount and you can avoid a permanent installation.

Alternate mounting options are available. I have the cup holder mount with mine.
I can transfer the mount from my car to the service truck quickly. Check with Wilson Electronics.

Do not put the cradle closer to the external antenna or it will eventually feedback and defeat the whole purpose of the boosted signal. The cradle and external must maintain a minimum distance at all times. Instead of a cell booster it will become a cell jammer because of it oscillating up a storm.

The make a unit that I just installed (check my channel for a video) that is for home use. I installed the omni directional antenna (should have bought the other package) as well as a directional antenna. Make sure you get the one you actually need. Though, I bought the wrong one and it works great.
