Boy I remember this game it was so much nostalgia I remember back when me and my 2 cousins played wii at their old house and we used to play this minigame back when the Wii was a big hit, good old days I miss them memories.

Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge for the SNES had a mini-game similar to this; Hammer Bash. Tapping the A and B buttons would build up the power gauge, then pressing the D-pad would whack the launcher to launch the rocket. The more strength put in and the longer you'd wait, the further the rocket would go. However, in Wacky Sports challenge, you could use the D-pad to control the rocket while it was airborne. You had to watch out for various obstacles, but could try to push your opponents' rockets into them.

Also, those rockets bear a striking resemblance to the S.S. Dolphin from Pikmin 1.
