Kamala is a liberal, she's not going to be decommodifying production or democratizing industry in the way we want. But we need to keep our expectations reasonable. What is good or bad is always relative. We live in an era where Fascism is on the table. Anything that opposes, delays, forestalls, or undermines Fascism is, as mandated by our circumstances, good. Kamala Harris is good, because the alternative is bad.

When it comes to allying with libs I always think of the version of the Legolas and Gimli meme that goes "Never thought I'd die fighting side to side with a liberal" "How about dying fighting side to side with an anti-fascist?" "Aye, I could do that"

I think it would help if Vaush went over the basics more often. Back when I started watching, Vaush did a lot of video reactions refuting conservative points and offering alternative views on topics like socialism and trans issues. The last couple years those types of segments have become less common compared to news coverage. Those don't lend themselves to making arguments about socialism in the same way, so I think a lot of new folks think Vaush is just "MSNBC with slurs" as someone put it.

Anecdotal, but I've seen more people in the community ask what concepts like "decommodification" mean and make mistakes like assuming socialism is when government does stuff in the past six months. I think Vaush sometimes assumes everyone watching him already knows these things, but new people flow in, and they might not have the basics down, so reintroducing these ideas would be good. Segments like the Hatsune Miku one about racism.

Kamala is playing good politics. I respect it bc I want her to win, even if I don’t agree with all her ideas

I think what's more annoying than leftie YouTubers constantly reminding everyone that liberals are liberals is when they get hypercritical on progressive Dems not doing and saying everything they want them to do and say while not having any criticism of Jill Stein

You should always criticize politicians, they are supposed to earn your vote. However, many leftists are extremely unrealistic about the world. Like you said, you have to make change in what you can do now. Unless people are ready to pull out the guillotine and then have a plan of leadership immediately after, many don't really want to hear calls for a revolution that has no actual goal and sustainability. Fundamental change is important, but it requires actual work to dismantle a system (usually from the inside and through incremental change).
This is why it's important to protect your most progressive officials from being ousted by lobbying organizations. Rep. Ruwa Romman spoke about this substantially and talked about the democratic left's inability to organize efficiently. That led to Cori bush, who is very progressive, being ousted by AIPAC. The leftist crowd spent their time complaining about Kamala Harris online instead of saving Cori Bush through organizing, door knocking, and actually voting in their districts.

When you head into the contents section looking forward to engaging in Spirited Discourse, but then you remember YouTube randomly deletes like 60% of replies and extended discussion is usually literally impossible. I love modern social media SO MUCH MAN.

On the point of debating Republicans, I think what changed significantly was the cultural war framing of things. It used to be "I'm arguing to prove I'm smart so I have to be right", now it is "I'm arguing to prove I'm part of my tribe so I must double down." It's the difference between "I'm the special one in the collective" versus "I'm just like everyone else in this collective".

I have a feeling this will be a consistent issue for Vaush the longer he does this. Each election cycle he'll get a large influx of new fans who lack the context of his previous videos/controversies to understand his actual positions.

To me, the anarchist perspective is the closest we can get toward political agnosticism. I mean, even historically speaking when anarchists have been involved in education, they don't teach kids to be good little anarchists. No, they would teach them to criticize how our systems affect us on the broad societal level, and on the personal level, to support autonomy and individual rights. Conservatives don't believe in individualism, they are all wrapped up in group identity. Liberals do to a limited degree, but they also have commitment to upholding the pre-existing order of things, and glom onto common sense wisdom that's often not sensible and commonly disproved.

I’m a former liberal who’s less and less libby every day. I still have a ways to go before I start arguing with Marxists about which version of Marxism is the most Marxist but I have faith that I’ll get there someday.

The response that Vaush received for the professor Dave video and Obama speech at the DNC did demonstrate that for whatever reason Vaush has a community full of libs. And it does surprise me because Vaush himself is obviously very progressive, and explicitly so as a political livestreamer.

Step 1 call other people names so you don’t have to really talk to them

Step 2 share this hilarious encounter with friends about how you owned the lib, which you totally are not

One thing I hate, but believe is a product of the internet, is the annoying but endless disclaimers people keep making any time they say anything. Things like “I’m not saying X is perfect” or “I’m not saying X is bad or the worst thing ever when I make criticism” or “I don’t agree with everything they say, but”. It’s like the internet has broken basic conversation and discourse so badly that people now just default to endlessly trying to cut off the inevitable idiotic responses before they happen…but they just keep happening anyway.
