After reading "The ballad of songbirds and snakes" this music took on a new meaning

Okay, gotta nerd out for a sec. In the prequel book, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this song is written as a secret message to Coriolanus Snow by his girlfriend, who didn’t know he was responsible for the man who was executed in the “hanging tree.” She finds out after they meet “in the hanging tree, ” after which she runs away. Snow, desperate, tries to shoot her, but doesn’t know whether or not she died.

The sheer irony that this song was sung later by the armies who toppled Snow’s empire is staggering. Amazing prequel. And amazing performance!
