Okay I see the magic of this problem. We don't care about the total displacement to the right or downward done by the spring. Those components don't matter. We are only using the change in spring length to calculate the work done. I thought since we used delta y for the weight we needed to used delta s or delta y when calculating the work done by the spring. Only having to calculate change in spring length makes this problem super easy.

You should’ve take the component of the spring in the direction of the position vector of the particle. Some amount of spring force acting on surface with perpendicular angle mean that this component does not have work on particle.

Wouldn't work done by spring force always be negative? because even as you compress, the force of spring will be in the opposite direction to the direction of motion. Oh wait, compression starts when you pass equilibrium (0) point... I see
