064 - Work and Energy

In this video Paul Andersen explains how the mechanical energy added or removed from a system results from work. For work to occur a force must act parallel to the displacement of the system. Since work and energy are equivalent the work-energy theorem allows of for calculating the work as the change in kinetic energy. A force-displacement graph can be used to calculate the work done on the system.

How many times have I wondered over figuring out something of this sort, in light of spent energy... Awesome Paul! I appreciate the explanation!

Why dont you make a video on solving work and energy sums using calculus. We have to use calculus while solving work and energy sums.

Um wait, what did you do with cosine formula to solve the adjacent side if we dont know the hypothenuse? Could you explain a bit? I understand it so that
38 = cos^(-1) ( adjacent/hypothenuse )
but I dont quite get where we will get the length of the hypothenuse
Help me please!

A doubt. If an object is having a potential energy, so, due to the transformation of energy, its potential energy can transform to kinetic energy or other energy. So, if a kinetic energy is applied to it, will it combine with the original potential energy and thus, the final energy released by it, can it be a combination of both forms of energy? The theory of conservation of energy, does it mean, any object will have potential energy? So, in the nergy transformation, is it a combination or, the potential energy is unused but, it is only affected by the kinetic energy? If gravitational force is a kinetic energy, when it is applied to an object, will it induce also the release of potential energy? If so, will the object falls faster when 2 kinds of energies are combined?

Is typing on a computer keyboard consider work in physics sense?

At about 4:40 you say 128J instead of 120J. Just to let you know.
