You mentioned something to keep items from sliding. When you open the back gate there is a hand hold you can fold back and lock in place that divides the cargo area in half. That reveals a sunken area for groceries or whatever so nothing should move or flip out when you reopen the gate. There are also 4 metal tie downs one in each corner of the storage area so you can tie items in.

Why are there so many button blanks on a platinum?

All the trims have the same cargo dimensions, the S and SV have a solid peace floor divider that lowers where the SL and Platinum have the 2 piece divide and hide. But all cargo area Dimensions are the same across all trims.
