1: The engine

It's the beating heart of the Golf R hot hatch that puts the express into this executive express. There’s lots of important numbers here, but the really fun one is 5.5. That’s how many seconds it will take you to clip 100km/h in the Passat 206TSI R-Line.

2: Cool technology

VW’s Active Info Display is incredibly cool technology, with a fully-customisable 12.3-inch TFT screen replacing the traditional dials in the driver’s binnacle. It makes following navigation instructions so easy, with the screen big enough to not just show the streets your on, but a huge area around the car, too.

3: Understated looks

Forget the usual performance car antics of boy racer looks, paper thin insulation and seat padding forged from steel, the Passat 206 TSI R-Line is understated and subtle outside, and comfortable and quiet inside.
