This is brilliant... as long as you only speak in short phrases with no punctuation, in a quiet environment, and don't use any slang or uncommon words.

I think this depends on your WPM on mobile. Also, you didn't try any any sentences with 'odd' words. People commonly use words that aren't recognized by the phone's dictionary.

You did get the user to speak using a script. We have to think about what we say, and that slows the entire process.

Also you should include different dialects of English or the way English is spoken in different countries.
Generally the interfaces mess up with speech recognition when spoken to in Southern Asian English.

Try to do this on a pc and for longer text, the typist will still win.

Where is Dragon NaturallySpeaking or Dragon Dictation? How can you miss such an obvious engine in this type of study?

The study seems flawed. First the user is reading the text not composing it. I find a make a lot more mistakes in my speaking than I do when typing because I can thinking while I type better. Also did they test swiping, or just tapping? It also seems flawed due to using that awful ios and nothing else.

We'll have to say in some way I'm addicted to speech recognition, it must be because I'm weak in writing (Especially when it comes to English because I'm not a native speaker so voice typing realy does it for me.) Anyway sometimes the program does not understand phrases very well. But I guess in the near future it will improve a lot. So I'm really looking forward to it.

A convenient excuse to put microphones everywhere and get everyone to sign T&C's so they can be listened to all day long by a veritable alphabet soup of agencies and corporations. Care to repeat the test against a fast typist on a full keyboard Mr Stanford? ;)
