This has to be the most underrated scene in all of Naruto. Everything about this flashback is executed so well. Danzo’s internal monologue and Tobirama’s final words perfectly explain why Danzo became the way he was. He took all the wrong lessons from this moment because of his jealousy and insecurity.

I feel like this was a test, Tobirama intended all along to be the decoy, he just wanted to see who had the courage to lay down their life for the team, which is a prerequisite to being the hokage. Hiruzen was the only one that stepped up, and he even proved it in the end vs. Orochimaru

Or seeing how hashirama died and passed on hokage to tobirama. Hiruzen in his prime during the wars. Minato taking out an entire army during the 3rd war. Deaths of other kages...
