Adding soil carbon is mitigation, drawdown of CO₂. The added water holding capacity is not mitigation of CC as stated, that's the adaptation part, equally as important because the CC genie is already out of the bottle and even if all humans left Earth tomorrow by 12 noon, global average temperature would rise from the current 1.0–1.1 ºC above 1850-1900 average, to ~1.7 ºC (range of +1.5 – +2.1 ºC). If we're talking regenerative farming to drawdown CO₂ and that involves ruminate livestock, i.e. cattle, sheep, goats, camels, then that has consequences in terms of methane emissions. Methane is 105x as potent as CO₂ over 20 years when including it's role as a precursor to tropospheric ozone (IPCC AR5 Ch8 Shindell et al).
