Umm. How about showing us the how to replace the actual keyboard. You know, the bit that everyone is having trouble with. I personally had to break the plastic tabs off with a knife and then used 1mm double sided tape to put it back together. There must be a better though.

Thank you so much! You have no idea how worried I was when the top didn't just come off once I took all the screws out.

seems like many people are interesting in knowing if there is a backlit keyboard available for this laptop (me included)... do you know if the laptop itself supports backlit keyboards? does it actually have a plug where you can power the backlit keyboard.

This also helped me with a X55A :) but doesn't show removal of the metal cover, basically you need a fine posi driver as the grooves are very shallow, remove all those flat black screws and the smaller ones and remove the yellow tape and foil tape and it should come off nicely.

I need to clean mine, not replace it. Can I peel off the plastic protecting it safely? or is it irreplaceable once i take it off for cleaning?

PD: I do not have pressurized air; it is ludicrously expensive where I live

What secures the replacement keyboard to the cover after you remove the pieces of plastic? Does it just pop back in, or will I have to glue it?

If A75VM, the back plate is very secure around the DVD drive. Maybe take out dvd, then I'll see screws?

Is this the same as ASUS A46?
I have a laggy keyboard ... and some of the keys (H, L, G, 2, F6, etc) are frequently not working well ... Please give me some insight on how to deal with this problem ... many thanks in advance

so much hassle for a fucking keyboard, but these keyboards are of bad quality, keys die randomly, ive this x550 laptop for only 1 year, and 6 keys died randomly just like that, no liquid spilling, no hitting hem hard etc, just everyday use...ive an older Asus laptop from 5 or 6 years ago, and i used the shit out of that one, still works like a charm, has no problems whatsoever with anything

I bought this Asus X550LB from NewEgg. NewEgg sent me the laptop with a malfunctioning keyboard. The space button didn't press at the sides, and some of the buttons were falling off.

removing the plamrest from the keyboard is the hardest part, there are some plastic rivets kind of nails holding it down.

Do I need to replace the entire module? Or just remove it to replace the keyboard part? In other words, can the keyboard and the module be separated?

Well i had to fix one of these ASUS X550C laptops in the past. Replacing the keyboard is super crap.. There's no screws, the keyboard is riveted in...
The easiest way is to just buy a new "palmrest with keyboard". ( mousepad has screws & slides out ).
Otherwise Get a soldering iron. Melt the plastic rivets. Rip out the old keyboard. Place the new keyboard, then using a soldering iron melt the little bits of remaining plastic to hold the keyboard.
