I have done this for 50 years and never had a problem Some people talk out of their neck

Not a theory. A fact. It’s just not common. But because it does happen is why precautions should be made. Wearing gloves and safety glasses is also recommended. Wriggling to ensure perfect contact on each connector can also cause this spark, so never do this when all four cables are connected. Instead ensure good connections each time you connect each cable, being careful to keep the fourth negative clamp well away from the negative battery terminal and the poor battery—the poor battery being the battery to more likely have a hydrogen or oxygen gas leak.

Listen I will never boost a car for no one because there is a lot of idiots out there .Cars are expensive to repair always tell them to go get a battery booster or call a taxi.
