Any idea on timelines between the thicker, thinner with full name and thinner with just the B.

Been watching all your vidoes lately, keep them coming!

My dad had a bunch of the non-dimpled plates in our garage when I was growing up, mostly 10s but some 5s and a pair of 2.5s including a pair of 10s and a pair of 5s in the pro series. All black. He gave them to me, and after I washed the rust off they were good to go for dumbbells and an EZ-bar. They were the first items I got for my home gym, and I still use them for dumbbells and my EZ bar.

I have BILLARD plates that were my fathers. Those gold dimples bring back memories…but he didn’t have a set of gold just the 2.5 lb plates and some other numbers. I think he liked the way they looked and painted them ..unless you could have got them separately. And the 25 lb plates I still use today! I have all new Olympic plates but some of my machines or loading pins are standard.

Cleaning the vintage weight plates we were given by my FIL today... many different varieties. This was helpful and I can't wait to watch more. There were York, Billard, Weider, Roberts, and some other generic no-name ones (unless USA is a brand I don't know of?). Super interesting learning about all of these brands!

I have a set from the late 1950's. They are the gold color. I am the 2nd owner. It appears that the set came with the larger diameter thin plates. The previous owner stated he added plates and those are the smaller diameter thick plates. Both styles are dimpled and have the Billard name. Weights are 2.5, 5, 10, and 25 in both styles. Based on that info, the thin plates are most likely older than the thick plates.

I have some of the 5s and 2.5s that were in a "standard" barbell set my dad bought for us, used, in the mid 70s. The other plates (10s, 5s, 2.5s, and 1.5s, were "Dan Lurie Brooklyn" plates. I still use them all. The db handles were a solid rod that went inside of a sleeve. Same with the barbell. I used the dbs handles still. Don't use the barbell, and can't even recall what I did with it. The plates are great. The handles and barbell, not so much. Cast iron collars with screws that bite into the bar to hold them tight. You need a wrench to take them on and off. But the plates work fine on spin lock db handles, and on the 6' and 7' Cap barbells I have also.

I had some of the thick dimpled 10s, along with the rounded script 2.5 and 5 pounders back in the early '80s. The 10s were used and rusty, so they were from the '70s or earlier.
I just bought some cheap CAP bumper plates and despite being made in China, they are an improvement. Not all progress is bad.

@VintageWeightsPGH you mentioned that you haven’t found anything higher than a 10lb from Bullard that is dimpled. I have a 25lb dimpled Billard plate I recently refinished from a FB Marketplace find. I had no idea it was Billard until this video because it only has the B on it.

Not the dimpled. I have those. But the other ones, I think they look nicer in shape and style than Yorks and Weider’s of the same period and maybe look as nice as Dan Luries. Thin, and round, creating a nice profile. I’m not comparing to address plates, but IMO they are as nice as the other more common Luries.

Hello pal ! I just found in a swap meet a couple of 10 lb Billiard dimpled edge plates with a center hole of 1.3 inch, and they don't fit into my dumbbell bars, do you know why is like that? They cost me only 10 dollars...

With those similar plates, do they come out of the same factory or use a similar template or something? I noticed some brands in my collection where they're practically the same except the lettering and wording.

I have many of the Billard pro standard plates in sizes 25, 10, 2 1/2 and 3 lbs, I think they are just a nice looking plate with lips for easy gripping, there are quite a few minor variations, some of them say made in USA, some are made in USA Roadmaster, and some are made in China Roadmaster, some have lettering that are large and flat on top, some have lettering that are smaller and taper to a peak at the top, some have thin outer lips and Some have thicker outer lips, some have the same even thickness from the inside of the plate to the outer lip and some have a tapered thickness from the inside of the plate to the outer lip, I'm thinking that the USA without the roadmaster are probably early 80s, and that maybe the USA roadmasters could be early to late eighties or maybe early 90s, and I would guess that the China roadmasters are probably 90s since that's when a lot of manufacturing was starting to be sent to China. I tried to look up the history of how Roadmaster got their name put on the billard pro plates and exactly what years these plates were manufactured, but I couldn't find any information on it.
