York Legacy Milled Plates (Unboxing & Impressions)

I recently got some new York Legacy milled plates and hadn't seen much information out there about them so I made this video.

I found these plates to be (thus far) pretty reliable on weight and their quality is much higher than the generic plates I've used (and I've used plenty). I even like these better than some popular brands that I talk about during this video.

Nice to see this. You don't see many reviews of the York or the Troy machined plates. Yet these are excellent choices for someone looking for a better than average plate.

YORK IS COMING BACK! You can order quality goods from their website and even with shipping they cost less than the junk at Walmart. Amazon will not show you anything but plastic or spring collars for a 1-inch bar, but I just ordered six of those red cast-iron collars from my boyhood for 23 bucks total.

Currently have the Rogue Machined grey plates, but I'm interested in getting a full set of these York Legacy plates. These look basically identical (possibly same factory in China, ) but with a more consistent paint finish.

Would you happen to know what the spec is for the Center Hole Diameter?

Hey Gluck, would you still recommend these plates? I just stumbled across them and they seem pretty cheap for the 2% tolerance.

Hi im looking to but some york plates, but your video has me confused

Can you tell me which york plates are the best, you have said in the video these new vintage ones are accurate

Then you have a text pop up saying the old vintage ones are the best

And what do you mean by milled, thanks

I would avoid these at all costs. I recently bought a full set of these from a vendor in Canada. Of the ten 45lbs plates i got, 5 of the plates were well outside of the 2% tolerance weighing (44, 44, 43.8, 43.6, and the worst one was 42.2 which is over 6% off...). Surprisingly the 25s, 10s, and 5s were all pretty accurate, however one of one of the 10s I got wasn't milled on the front facing edge, even though all 4 of the 10s i got came in the same box... On top of all of that, the inner diameter of these are all abit over 2 inches, which is enough to be too loose to be a tight fit on any good bars. On top of all that, alot of the plates had major imperfections such as dents, pain chips, and sharp blobs of paint that stick out and are quite sharp.

Another thing to note is that York has been switching manufacturing plants recently which is obvious as the York lettering of the logo on their plates is changing fonts every so often; (some with thin writing, some bubble writing with a trademark, some with much wider bubble writing and the trademark which is what I recieved very recently). Along with the changing of plants, I've seen on reddit in a comparison post that plate thickness, diameter, and milling quality varies depending on which style you get... It seems as though quality probably was quite abit better whenever they were making the older style legacy plates which had the thinner writing.

Avoid buying these new entirely. If you are going to try to pick up some of these, get them used and make sure they have thin written york logo on them.
