Brachycephalus pernix frogs have trouble sensing small changes in rotation, which makes landing jumps difficult, a new study suggests. The frogs can roll, cartwheel or backflip through the air, and then hit the ground on their backs or bellies.

I keep poison dart frogs. It is amazing that they survive in nature, because they are so inept at catching food. Watching them in "mighty hunter" mode is always interesting. They are fairly good at climbing and hopping, but are not really strong at anything. The frogs depicted have the advantage of hopping in leaf litter in nature, which probably is helpful in landing more gracefully....

my guess would be to evade predators, flinging itself into nearby debris and leaf litter, making itself stiff would help it blend in as it does so. like a pebble or lump of mud.

My favorite frog are the Pumpkin toadlets. They are uncoordinated when jumping, so the won't land properly. Please look up videos of it.
