I know of someone who is actively trying new foods trying to see what is and isn’t a safe food, they’re getting bored with the same thing. It’s rough and touch and go, but now they know they have 5 foods they thoroughly enjoy eating. And I’m so very happy and so very proud. “Who knew I liked peas!” Is my favorite of their reactions of all the foods they’ve tried 😂

This is definitely the case. I love trying new foods, but certain textures, tastes, smells, and even temperatures really bother me. It's to the point where I will become very nauseous and cannot eat anything without forcing myself.

I have arfid and I don't even eat sweets. I constantly try new food, even push it to several times to see if i could "grew" to like it. Im in my 30s and still gag to certain food.

I was already called a picky eater as a kid, and my own mother actually used to call me Annie-rexic. At 23, I found out I have an eating disorder and that I've had it since I was five.

Can reactions vary based on the situation? Like I find myself getting annoyed at family members for eating something and enjoying it for years and then suddenly insisting “I don’t like it anymore” when I make it for dinner. Or insisting they can’t eat something at all when I suspect (maybe unfairly) it’s just not a favorite of theirs based on the rest of their diet.

Vegan since like 8 years old from a meat eating family. Eating a turkey would prolly kill me lol

I can not eat fruits, raw vegetables, and some cooked vegetables. It makes me gag from the texture and sometimes taste. It's easier to eat fruit if i nibble on it, but that isn't exactly an efficient way to eat fruit (especially since i don't like sticky). Fruit juices and cinnamon applesauce are fine too just the actual fruit itself

Grew up hating the flavor and texture of pineapple, the flavor of root beer, birch beer, cream soda, and artificial watermelon. Love all these things now. Artificial watermelon flavor is the most recent one I've become ok with.

Summer squash and zucchini make me gag. This will never change. Being Force fed overcooked boiled summer squash will cause a lifetime reaction against these things.

To fight ARFID, I like exploring foods a certain colour (usually purple carrots, purple raddish, or sweet pea infusion). But cauliflower remains a no-no for me, so I'm not even tasting the purple one 🤢
