Hiked to an plane crash site below Roan Mountain Bluff on the North Carolina Tennessee border with my nephew from Montana. The Beechcraft 35 single engine airplane crashed in December of 1988. Sadly, the pilot and two passengers were killed in the crash. The debris field is scattered over a large area in steep and rocky terrain. We found some landing gear, the engine and a large piece of the chassis. We also found scattered debris that was too mangled to identify.

The plane crash happened on Dec.1, 1988. The casualties we're Lonnie Diamond (pilot), Mickey Malone, and Bill Rowe.

I was a cadet in Civil Air Patrol and worked that crash site. It was horrible. One I will never forget.

Crazy to see this. Mikey Malone is my grandpa. It’s been years and years since I was taken to the crash, I was around 8-9 years old. Thanks for the video. RIP Mikey Malone, Lonnie and Bill.
