I built a big Tesla Coil, but it has a big problem!

This big vacuum tube Tesla coil (VTTC) has some serious power behind it. But does it live up to its "potential"?

These design files are published under the CERN Open Hardware License Version 2 - Weakly Reciprocal variant (CERN-OHL-W).

Tesla coils and high voltage are dangerous. Do not try this yourself!

Not sure how I didn't see this. Excellent video friend!

Very nice! Styropyro seemed to have similar issues with his VTTC at first, if that's any consolation! You should talk to Kyle over on "Electromagnetic Farce", he made a really powerful VTTC despite using an even weaker tube. Maybe he'll know what's up with your design!

Hello keep up the good work. I love the videos. I was wondering how small could you make a resonant coil to largest one you have? Then how far away can you get power? Finally can you power a coil from other coli

I suggest using JAVATC to design the coil. Its actually made for SGTCs but works fine for VTTCs also. Just ignore the spark gap parts of the program. I have used JAVATC to design several Tesla coils including my 833C VTTC. It looks like your coil is out of tune. I also suspect the coupling is too low because your primary coil is very far away from the secondary coil.

The fan. reminds me of the trio of turboprops I have on my ion laser. The thing stays eeirly silent till the tube gets to 65 celcius, then whoom - all 3 fans kick into high gear. Its spooky seeing a beam coming out of the chassis while it consumes 1kW+ of power, yet remaining completely silent until it goes into vacuum cleaner mode, Then 5 minutes later (even at full power) the fans kick off again. Bigass lasers are fun :)

I bet the space charge causes a negative bias on the tube, you need way stronger feedback and i would also decrease the grid resistor to 1kOhm (220V 60W bulb)

Don't give up on this. Use bigger transformers. Just do so safely. Can't wait to see just how big and thick you can make the arcs be.

I think the diode stack probably failed because each diode will have a slightly different leakage current when reverse biased. If one or two of those diodes are a bit leakier than the others, they will take up a small portion of the reverse voltage. That puts excess strain on the other diodes until POP! Sometimes you need to parallel each diode with a resistor. Yes it will leak more in reverse, but it will keep that voltage evenly distributed over the diodes.

I'm guessing two MOTs is not enough and the voltage is sagging greatly

It looks nice, I'm so sorry you couldn't get nice arcs, but I've seen worse, like mine

Very good. but there are a lot of things to improve I get 1m output from a gu5b vaccumtube it's a 5kw triode. Im using 4 MOTs in parallel and series and a 12uF doubler. I would also use more diodes like 30-40 10A10 diodes in series and MOVs across evry diode. Also Russian doorknob caps are perfect for tank caps they are rated for 15kv 450pf.

How are you getting 7000 watts from your wall socket, that is some heavy juice. :)

I've read other guys blogs that you should never operate a Tesla coil near any sensitive computer equipment, the guy in the article fried his printer by operating the Tesla coil near it!

what happen if you run a Tesla Coil in a thunder storm

The primary is too small. It should contain 35-40 turns

Heyy I love your content, I have been working on a Tesla coil myself and I just can't get it to work if you do see this could we please communicate further to maybe see where I went wrong? Or maybe I'm missing a key point
