One of the few Iconic Corpses who became iconic because her wishes were followed rather than horrifically violated

Death and the corpse were considered taboo and tainting by Heian nobility (being cleansed after coming into contact with death would require Shinto rituals and a quarantine of sorts), so this would've been a huge shock for the entire capital. What a badass lady!

Personally speaking: I enjoy each and every video you make.

“Ecstasy of Decay”
Sounds like a contender for title of your next book. 🤞🏻

I loved this series. Salute women for standing for what they belived in life, and death. Allow me to remember Marielle Franco, a black, lesbian, brazilian woman who stand for human rights, women rights and advocate for the people living in the favelas whom is suffering with the heavy  repression and violence of our army and militar police. She was EXECUTED with 9 shoots (4 fuzil shoots in her face), along with her driver (who was also killed) in march, fourteenth 2018 after making a formal denunce against  corrupted police officers only 4 days before her murder. For her life, ativism, and death. Marielle Franco is to me, and Brazil, an infortunated iconic corpse. MARIELLE, PRESENTE!

On a level, I LOOOOVE the constant content. On another level..I love the more detailed, longer vids. So I'm on the fence lol

Yes! I love the Japanese concept of "Mono no Aware" or roughly, "the impermanence of things" or "the transience of things." It's one of the reasons that sakura or cherry blossoms are so pervasive in Japanese culture. Each year they attract crowds to admire their beauty *because* they are so fleeting, in a way part of what they represent is ultimately the mortality of everything, but also the renewing nature of spring and the cycle of re-emergence. I'm glad she was allowed to make her final point in death, just as the cherry blossoms do every year.

hi caitlin, i have to say that i've been a fan of your channel for years now and i've probably seen all of your videos as i absolutely love your passion for death positivity and death acceptance. that being said there was a mistake with the information you provided in this video: the paintings shown in minute 0:50, 1:05, and 1:20 are in fact not of empress danrin/tachibana no kachiko, but are actually of the waka poetess ono no komachi (小野小町). she lived during the heian period as well (825-900), was part of the rokkasen (six best waka poets of the early heian period), and was also a known beauty during her youth (much like tachibana no kachiko in this video). that being said, "beauty" is actually one of the most important features of these kusōzu (nine phase diagram) type of paintings made by male monks depicting beautiful women's cadavers decomposing in the wild. this has actually led to criticism by some scholars who are familiar with these paintings, who believe that they represent the sexist, misogynistic, and patriarchal nature of japanese buddhism (i suggest gail chin's paper from 1998 titled "the gender of buddhist truth: the female corpse in a group of japanese paintings" for further readings)

I loved this series! I’m kind of bummed that it’s over, but it was an awesome series to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s Month! Thank you for making this series :)

Final? Aw, I really liked this series.

She sort of reminded me of Hedy Lamarr, whose work during World War II on a frequency-hopping signal paved the way for Bluetooth and Wi-fi, but was never taken seriously because of her beauty.

I’m a huge fan of yours and don’t get me wrong I loved every last one of these short videos. However I find myself wanting more. I mean 1-3 minute videos just isn’t enough. I could watch you all day everyday between the death facts and iconic corpses It’s just all so fascinating.

GIRL, you have seriously made my week! ;-)
What a brave decision this woman made, for I'm sure that she expected her loved ones to be less than thrilled at her last wishes. An unselfish act from a woman of such high bearing!
