I’m more friends with 3/4 of my clients and it’s definitely harbours a solid working relationship. And also it feels super fulfilling to hear the finished music and see and support their success

w/ my last band, we always did a pre-production - saves SO much time (and by extension: money).
Also: example productions of the kind of mix / atmosphere / result you're looking to achieve.

TIP: Send both to the studio, ahead of the studio sessions, so they can already come up with ideas to create the sound you're looking for.

(...as for 'working with...' and 'trying out'... Depends on the artist.
I think that the last 2 studio sessions (both full length albums) ~ 32 tracks total ~ we took 1 (one) suggestion.
...we already had everything figured out exactly how we wanted it (..and all the music / lyrics / phrasing were already decided upon...
After heavy, HEAVY discussions in the practise room, and countless tryouts of ideas.
We didn't want to have those discussions last minute (as we were 3 dudes with hella strong opinions),
but being able to focus on giving as strong and tight of a performance as possible)

The last 'tryout' things were always done in preproduction.

And we worked out every note, figured out every timing issue, lyrical phrasing / intensity things from that recording.

After that, we practised practised practised, until those changes were just the thing we automatically played.

All to save time in the studio and focus on the quality of the performance, and the sound of the record.

First of the 2 LPs: 13 tracks, 10 days.
Second: 19 tracks, ~3 weeks
(the sound of that 2nd LP is so much better; it's insane)

Recorded those records with Kristian Kohle, by the way (from *Kohle Audio Kult*. Check him out on the YouTubes if you like metal and related genres.
That man is a master of guitar sounds.. And very nice to work with).

Coming in prepared and laying down things you know wont change leaves time and room for the songs that happen on the spot and experimentation.

And source top quality gear for the artist, that they can get comfortable with first, without using poor quality gear, or gear they are putting hands on for the first time, 60mins before the first take!

it's oportuniti?
Isn’t this a mandatory and logical stage, before which it’s better not to go into the studio?

Do you really get artists in your studio that do not have the lyrics or melody fully formed?
