We didn’t lose any more livestock once we brought in donkeys. Our dog did lose a testicle to the donkey. He found out the hard way how hard an ass can kick. Technically, he didn’t lose his berry. Bob (the donkey) kicked Chico’s berry back to pre-birth status. Bob also killed bobcats, strays, coyotes, and nearly erased a human or two. Guard 🫏s and guard 🪿are no joke

Llamas being used as a guard for a herd is pretty similar to how donkeys also protect herds from predators. Where the llama intimidates, the donkey kicks! And make no mistake, donkeys can be aggressive when protecting a herd, and they can kick with enough force to kill anything short of the largest terrestrial predators. It would be interesting to see if someone has done a study to determine what species can perform best as a herd protector.

2.5 billion ducks are consumed every year across at least nine provinces in central, eastern, and southern China, while consumption in the north and west tends to hover roughly in the hundreds of millions.Oct 5, 2018

Ducks are better at keeping around produce than chickens, because chickens will damage the plants with their pecking (sharp peak). Ducks nibble at stuff.

before llamas were used as guarding animals donkeys were used in a similar way because they are naturally very territorial

So a flock of ducks won't duck from a good job as their pay would be deductible.😂

I have a 6 acre pond and I had issues with a couple of coyotes eating my freaking ducks. So I bought some geese eggs and out of 10 eggs, 5 geese hatched.
I learned a very valuable lesson when they hatched. The geese parents work very hard. 1st I learned that they aren't called baby geese. Baby geese are called goslings and I had to feed them around the clock for a month!!!! But when it was all over and they were 5 months old, not even my neighbors dog stood a chance.
Now I have about 20 Canadian Geese and countless ducks. The geese are so chilled and comfortable with me and my shot gun, they don't even flinch when I shoot a couple of ducks. Now the ducks will fan out for a few minutes until my dog brings back supper for the evening.
Now I only shoot my ducks during duck season and never more than 3 ducks a week. My daughter hated me the first time I did this and then she tasted duck. Now she's always asking me, when is duck season.
There is a couple of ducks that I won't shoot. They will come and sit in my lap if I'm trying to fish. One we call lazy is sweet as can be. My geese are ok but they are more for protection for my ducks. I will say this, if you own a pond and want people to stay away and other Canadian Geese are the way to go. Just make sure that your family goes outside with them until they know you belong. They are very smart birds and very territorial. God help whoever wants to trespass on your property to fish. It's kinda hard for a person to call the cops and say that they were attacked by big bird and her friends. Lmao.

geese and donkey are also good guard animals, though don't expect a goose to chase away a wolf, they're more so for hawks and stuff. but donkeys are known to take out foxes and sometimes even wild dogs. they do not like canines.

Seasonal starling migrations are a thing to behold in the Midwest United States. I lived in Ohio growing up and every spring the woods around my neck of the woods would be a river of starlings that goes on for weeks at a time with gigantic flocks passing through..At night you could just pluck them off trees like flying livestock..

Another big problem is humans seem to be utterly incapable of learning from past mistakes

Every time we’ve introduced a species to deal with pest or whatever, it ended horribly
Yet we still do it, never once thinking how every other time we tried it not only failed to work but made things even worse

When I was a child, farmers did not use artificial fertilizers or pesticides, leading to thriving shrimps, clams, and fish in our rivers and creeks.

The story of human introducing animals to places that they don't belong in and then becoming an invasive species keeps repeating over and over. Is Steve's cat an invasive species? See you later.

Australia also imported cane toads to eat bugs, but most of the crops are above the toads reach

Sparrows do the same thing so Moe's China got everyone to kill a sparrow to save their crops but what they did not anticipate is that the sparrows also ate insects that ate the crops so in time the crops where destroyed by the insects and the sparrows only ate a small amount.
