Google Photo Alternative: PLEX

We have all heard it before, nothing in life is free. Once again Google has tempted us with free photo storage only to change their mind later. Granted, if you are not a heavy photo taker you can get away with the 15gb cap across all your Google services. Maybe. For the rest of us it is time to look at alternatives to Google Photo. For me before I started using Google Photos that was PLEX. Yes, that PLEX the go to for media server enthusiasts. Could it work for you?

Thanks for the video, I was starting to move photos to Amazon Photos, but i believe I'll use Plex after seeing this video. The one super useful feature I will big time miss is Google Photo's ability to clear the phone of photos already uploaded/backed-up.

Thanks, but sadly this won't work for me as I mainly used Google photos due to the lack of local storage. Are there any other all-online alternatives?

Can you make shared albums and have others add photos to them? That would make it really useful to get family members aboard.

What do you think about Synology Moments? Actually I'm looking for the CLOSEST thing to Google Photos, i.e Face recognition and auto categorization, being able to search for pictures just by typing some objects in it. (You get the point)

I'm kinda lost here as I want to leave Google Photos and get something of my own, like a Synology NAS.

Can you setup a Plex server and then share entire folders as a link to share with multiple people? Or do they all need Plex mobile or Plex desktop to view what you share?

Interesting option, cheers. Subscribed! I think I'll stick to Google Photos initially and see how long I can minimise the cost of Google One, there are a few tips to do so (video on channel), including as you mention the Pixel phones (1-5) being exempt from "high quality" photos counting toward their owner's storage quota. I'm too hooked into using Google photos with albums setup and sharing to leave :(
