The first time the naval flag with the stripes was officially adopted as a state and national flag was in 1970. After the the fall of the military junta the land state flag was changed again in 1975 to the old traditional one with the plain white cross until 1978 when again the naval stripes flag became the official national and state flag but with a lighter shade of blue than before.
