Soldano SLO30 vs. SLO100 - HOW CLOSE IS THE 30 TO THE 100?!

Comparing my SLO30 to the SLO100. Using the same guitar in each clip, a Music Man Axis with stock Dimarzio pickups. Plugged into my Soldano 4x12 with Vintage 30 speakers. Only mic is a Royer R10 with nothing added in recording.

To my ears the main (and almost only) difference is headroom (more with the slo100)

When I turned my head away, i couldn't tell you switched amps. When focusing, you can hear a little bit of extra, expected, oomph from the hundred watter. That's my general experience with any amp in the same line with different wattage. Bravo Soldano! In a live mix, no one could tell the difference.

100 sounds a bit fuller in mid/lower end....but in a live gig....probably not any difference... 30 watts is giggable? without mic'ing the amp in a small club?

Thanks best comparison out there. Man they sound close..I would say if you can get a deal on a used SLO 100 that's the way to go. Alot of used 30s and 100s have been up for more than 4 months now that buyers are correcting the used market after the pandemic increase.

You need to get one of the new SLO Mini’s now and see if you can dial it in to sound like these two!

Mike did a phenomenal job designing the 30……it sounds fantastic. Nothing can beat the openness and gut punch of the 100 however. In a live setting….they both would kick serious ass.

So what about the feeling in front of the amp. The SLO100 feels best or pretty close?

I dont hear any difference in volume. Whats the point in buying a 100W head if you dont get more volume?

I’ve watched this video multiple times. I feel this is a badass demonstration. Better then most I’ve seen on YouTube.

The SLO 100 sounds like it has more NUTS and punches through better. Considering both amps were running, relatively the same volume.

My question is…Should I buy the Soldano 100 or the 30?? I like a nice CLEAN…and heavy crunch. And then I like to crank and get heavy for fun….I like a nice tone like Seether/NickelBack as a neutral heavy tone whenever it comes to rock.

I play with drummers here and there, but mostly mess with recoding software and jam alone in home studio bedroom space. I would like to know as far as CLEAN Headroom goes will the SLO 30 keep up with cleans if I jam with a full band….I have a VOX AC 30 and the cleans are pretty stable at loud volumes.

Whoa Channing Tatum got buff, grew a beard, and shreds. J/k.. You kind of look like him though. Good playing.
