As a former DI, my best advice is to get it out of your head that whatever you are doing will stop. You do what you're told, when your told, and then keep doing it till you are told to stop. Then be ready to be told to do something else, even if that means doing the same monotonous thing you just got done doing. The day never ends. Once you learn that it's a lot easier for you.

The best way to overcome everything... is having a strong, forward moving mindset. Dont give up to that resistance in your brain telling you to give up. Keep on fighting

I recommend the book "This recruit" by Keiran Lalor, he wrote the whole thing while he was in bootcamp, and nearly got caught doing so a couple times, and its very interesting because he is writing his experiences in bootcamp in real time as he is experiencing them and not just after the whole experience is over.

One of the first things my Senior Drill Instructor told the platoon was, "Do what you are told, WHEN you are told, and do it to the best of your ability." Words to live by. Semper Fi and Happy Birthday, Marines.

Step 1 Share your feelings with your drill instructors. They appreciate openness.

Step 2 After you've completed mountain climbers til he's tired, thank him.

Step 3 Ask lots of questions, even if you know the answer. It shows you are paying attention.

Step 4 After you've completed bends and thrusts til he's tired, thank him.

Step 5 Always look your drill instructor strait in the eyes. This shows him that you respect him.

Step 6 After you've completed push-ups til he's tired, thank him.

I’ve watched a lot of videos on boot camp in Paris island and San Diego, the physical and mental aspect . Based on my life style . I’m quite physically strong, I have an intense mental capacity to never give up . Push till you collapse . And what I’ve watched . I don’t think it’ll be as bad for me, I’m strong and fast I can go for longer than most . So I have high confidence that I’ll do good at it

Yup, it really is a game. I remember when I realized that, and that made a big difference. After that I learned not to take anything personally. Whatever they did to us I knew would make me stronger.

everything you saying is absolutely true! and also it doesnt get easier you just get used to it! your drill instructors give you the cheat code! Be loud, move fast and do what you are told and bootcamp will be a breeze! it starts hard but you start to realize its the same stuff everyday so if you recognize that and do those 3 steps bootcamp will be quick. and its true remember your purpose on why you are they and that will help you put out! it gets hectic in there and getting IT sucks but one thing i learned is when getting IT if you do it with intensity and scream 1, 2, 3 and the workout everything will be good and like my drill instructor told me. EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT KILLS! lol its a drill thing

Thanks for the advice. I'm shipping out early November and I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I go. I want to excel at whatever comes my way. My boss told me not to get recycled so I'm going to do everything I can to stick with my Platoon the whole ride though. Also the chow to chow advise seems very true and I will remember that one if shit gets tough.

Boot Camp Sept 1978 Plt 3103, , , , 1. make damn sure this is what you want, 2. don't give up today, wait until tomorrow to quit. 3. don't quit tomorrow either... in other words, don't give up no matter what happens. Have fun BOOTS!

Ya bootcamp is easy, hardest part is in your head. Go in in halfway decent shape, an open mind, and no emotional baggage and you're chilling.

There was no social media when I joined and nobody talked about it. When I told people I was joining all I was told was don't. The only thing I was told by the recruiter was I needed to be physically fit and I thought I was because I played all sports in High school. I was far from physically fit but I made it. There were some guys who really suffered. Still the best decision I ever made.
