Newsnight has been behind the scenes at a Bristol University laboratory to understand how British scientists are getting to grips with coronavirus.

The government has published its action plan for dealing with the virus, which involves three phases - contain; delay; mitigate - alongside ongoing research.

The emphasis is currently on the contain and research phases, officials say, but planning for the delay and mitigate stages is already in train.

Deborah Cohen reports.

I like the idea that the entire world is in on a massive conspiracy to stop Liverpool from winning the League.

Why don't the media ask someone who has recovered from the virus to come on TV and tell the public what it's like and long it lasted if nothing else it might just reassure people and calm things down.

Government- "we are moving from the containment phase to the delay phase"

What does that even mean!?
Nobody has even bothered to explained what actual actions are being taken.

Why aren’t the schools closed?? Can anyone answer the question without the answer “you’ve got to look at the science behind it”
To me it’s just common sense to try and stop the spread! Starting with the temporary closure of schools!

The government must establish an emergency sovereign fund to be distributed immediately to every citizen in the UK As an independent country with its own fiat currency and central bank, the UK government is not constrained in the creation of new money for fiscal stimulus in times of national emergency – as it demonstrated in 2008 when Gordon Brown created £532 billion to bail out the banks.
The pandemic emergency carries a far greater risk to the UK and the response from government is wholly inadequate. The NHS does not have sufficient capacity to meet even a modest outbreak – and greater reliance on self-care and isolation will be necessary. Unfortunately, many millions of people have no liquidity or cash savings – and they are just as much at risk as those with co-morbidity – more often, they are in both categories.
The government should make available a cash sum of £3, 000 for every adult in the UK and £1, 500 for every child. This will help mitigate against some of the increased costs everyone will have to bear and will guarantee a basic standard of living in the months ahead.
This will cost £200 billion and can be distributed immediately to those most in need through the DWP to Universal Credit and Pension claimants – then through HMRC and Local Authorities. This payment should be reviewed and renewed every six months until the outbreak is under control. The government should also order a moratorium on all mortgage payments for households – and introduce strict rent controls in the private sector.
Unless individuals are empowered to look after themselves – and have the ability financially to do so – we face a complete breakdown of UK society as the disease progresses. The prospect of looting, rioting or lawlessness and this virus is unthinkable.. The creation and distribution of a sovereign fund will help prevent the worst that may happen.

This guy was talking rubbish! I was expecting some kind of good reasons from him for doing what he was doing
so I was wasting my time very carefully listening to him. but it was nothing but emotive testimony with hallow echo! With no theological discussion. He was looking for a father authority figure no Christ! You need to do better than that mate! However, God bless you, keep trying brother!
