Yesterday we went after the students pretending to be teachers, today we shred the teachers pretending to be self help gurus. @legion_ajj @tatamifightwear
This whole series on gym existence is based around how I run @legion_ajj after growing 500% in just 3 years. I decided it's time to start showing people how to run a successful gym that kicks ass and provides value.
Dm me the word "Gym" if you want to become an affiliate of the American jiujitsu movement and I'lI show you how to grow a thriving grappling business from scratch to omelette

I had a teacher who gave speeches at the end of classes, not every time, but a lot. To be honest, I loved them! It was cool hearing things from his perspective and they weren't wishy washy.

He'd say things like when he started seeing a blue belt was like Christmas because nobody really trained here (Europe), so you should never deny a roll with an upper belt (within reason obviously) as it was such a fantastic learning curve.
One thing he said that stuck with me all this time was 'Your thoughts are real' . Simple statement but was so true in terms of mindset, or even remembering and thinking about moves, that those thoughts formed a real basis for how you moved forward and embraced situations. He wasn't some hard-ass giving life advice, it was all about jiu-jitsu, but personally I liked them and I think the gym as a whole did too.

I like the closing monologues :( Some important things needs to be said after learning certain things

I actually enjoy the monologues as long as it’s useful.

Amen brother. Been through that torture more times than I care to admit.

As an instructor in other styles I can relate. I love details when talking about techniques, but I know the students don't know and may not understand the details so I work hard to keep my teaching brief. As a new student to BJJ I love it when the instructor gives a lot of detail, but I can tell some other students just want to try the technique out for themselves. At the end of class my Bjj coach doesn't say much and we will just bow out. Where I instruct we like for everyone to off something though brevity is appreciated.

Every once in a while a good Jhon Dhanaher bed time story at the end of class is ok!
BUT I RATHER JUST GO HOME AND SMOKE SOME WEED 😐

I haven't seen or experienced this apart from an instructor going into a lot of depth about why a technique works or what each person is looking to accomplish in a position or submission at a conceptual level. I could listen to those monologues for days.

I would rather a monologue than making the class do pushups and situps at the end instead of 2 extra rounds

My son stopped BJJ as the coach would talk too much. Class was very boring.

I hate all my coaches because of this.

The fact you set up your gym moments before the 'pandemic', you're now thriving, gives you even more credibility on this topic. The prestige of your career alone can't carry a business through something like that.

I send this to my coach, he don’t like you any more

I totally agree, but I have come to realize that the majority of people doing BJJ want to be in awe of their favorite black belt instructor and will damn near do anything they say and drink in every word. If you even mention this as possibly being problematic you will be black listed just like in any other cult.

Well there's more to jiu jitsu than just technique. Also it's very insightful hearing from people who have been training for so long and maybe you can learn from their philosophical ideas.
