You are looking at the part of the Infrared spectrum that is just next door to the light spectrum.
The device you had in your hand is looking at FAR INFRARED which detects heat. An ordinary camera does not do this, even with the filter removed.

All camera sensor are infra red. NOT THERMAL.

Great, now you potentially destroyed your camera, even though your phone camera can pick up the infrared light 💀

My phone sees infrared by default. And I think most of the phone cameras do.

and if you grab a piece of negative film, put the dark part of it in front of the lens, it blocks most of the visible spectrum and lets most of the infrared through. this can give some weird effects such as trees being pink instead of green and the sky having a pinkish tint

The oculus quest 2 passthrough mode also has this, because it shoots in black in white, meaning there would be no point for the fliter, if anyone was wondering.

Astrophotographers and amateur have been doing this for years by now, my friend even modded his Android camera by removing the infrared camera, it helps take better astro images

it works on any camera without removing that plus i see that blinking all the time when im in a dark room

Video idea: if u can, add two or more layers of this sheet of paper and see what happens

note for people on the "night visions even use IR" high end ones ( costing of upwards of 7k ) do not use IR, they use phosphorous tubes that can not be picked up by IR detectors please keep this in mind

Na verdade ela se chama câmera de espectro ampliado. Ela não é uma infravermelho mas captura mais frequências de luz que normalmente a gente conseguiria identificar. Quanto mais antiga a câmera mais eficiente é o resultado.

Actually, Some cameras can't see in infeared, such as x ray machines, which are special cameras designed to take photos of x rays when they are shined onto source material. There's also radio telescopes which can only sense radio waves and take pictures of space in those frequencies. Then there is my camera, in which I installed a lens that eliminates non visible spectrum interference in my photos, simply because I take a lot of beach photos in bright sunlight and it helps remove a lot of the glare aka UV light. While that is clearly not the same as Infrared, it still is non visible light.

astrophotographers do this pretty often, it's really useful

On traditional film cameras, the IR filter is in front of the lens, and also acts as a replaceable dust cover for the lens . No need to dismantle the camera, it's an accessory like the screen protectors for smartphones .

nicolas when you disassemable a camera be carefull cause there is a big capacitor that could be chraged to up to 300v its the flash capacitor.

You can also see this when you use pass through on a oculus quest 2 not 3, 2

I feel like people don't really get the point of this trick. Yes, any camera will be able to see some infrared light by default (although some models have no built in ir filter). However, it's not called a "ir filter" for no reason. Without the ir filter, you can see fainter ir light as that would not have been possible before. Stuff like night vision with ir flood lights is possible. Off course as an amateur astrophographer, i would try milky way photography and such as space can be seen in the infrared region as well as many other (uv, x-ray etc).

Even with the filter it can detect the infrared. Just start recording a video in the dark in front of a mirror, you'll see the laser for focus

You can actually see the Face ID light with a oculus quest TWO on pass though (does not work on quest 3
