Next time you're out in a thunderstorm with lighting hitting close by to your campsite, get out of your tent and stay inside your vehicle until the lighting has passed by. Your tent poles make terrific lightning rods. That's one thing I learned to do long ago after seeing a tent get hit by lightning - you don't want that to happen! A vehicle isn't foolproof but it is safer.
