What is Survive the Jive?

My name is Tom Rowsell, I'm an historian and film maker from England. In my professional career I have worked as a journalist and an international Science Communications specialist.

Survive the Jive is a history channel which focuses on the pagan religions of ancient Europe. I also look at linguistics, genetics, anthropology and other disciplines in order to gain insights into ancient peoples.

This is the second channel trailer I have made. The first one came out four years ago in 2016.

Your visiting of ancient sites gives your content a sense of place and removes the abstraction between us and ancient peoples. I think that's an important component that creates a human and spatial connection, these people weren't just literary figures.

Tom I seriously thank you. From your channel I became inspired to investigate and explore my ancestral ties with Finland beyond a superficial understanding. My grandmother, who fled Viipuri (Karelia) during the Russian invasion, led her to America to begin anew. And now here I am, born and raised in Texas- and although I cherish my state, I have always truly felt like a stranger. As I learn about Finland and its customs, learning about its history and its utterly absurd ability to sustain itself despite the coming and going of turmoil, I feel my soul lift and swirl with excitement. I feel as though my very being longs to be in such a place. So now I feel the feverish obligation to find a way to Finland, and this has carried with it a new sense of purpose and meaning that has reinvigorated my will to live. I will return home one day.
