Buying this car after this extremly detailed PPI is nowhere near "rolling the dice" lol, regardless enjoy it man!

Props to the shop that did the PPI - seems thorough with very good pictures.

LOL Will. My jaw dropped when you said "A guy from Wisconsin". I sold my black 1999 996 manual coupe to a guy in Wisconsin early January this year and he had it listed for sale a few months latter probably hopping to make a killing. He kept dropping the price and had it listed down to $20, 750 and after months listed, it just sold about a week or two ago. Though he tried to convince me he was buying it to keep, I knew he was going to buy and resell for more money. One important thing to do in evaluating any 996 is get the car idling and as hot as possiable, with the AC off, to the point where the radiator fans are cycling and keep you ear at the rear on right side cylinder six side. It you hear an audiable tick or slap, it's very likely the piston skirt slapping against the cylinder. In it's early stages, you often won't hear it until the engine is hot and the oil is fully warmed and thinned and don't let any so-called expert convince you it's a lifter.

My 996 GT3 pulled hard to the right under throttle when I bought it because the tires were all worn differently and were up to five years apart on their dates, AND were oversized on stock wheels. Threw some new OEM sized Falkens on it (It was during the thing when stuff was hard to find) and it was all good.

I am 100% on board with your plan, and if all goes well and you end up bringing it home, I will be excited to hear your thoughts on owning and living with a 996. I really like this generation of 911, maybe because it has been the underdog, but also because it's a great car that does a lot of things well

Appears to be a good example. That is the nicest 996 interior I have seen.

Wisconsin is fun for cars like that, I live right on the border of IL and WI and I always end up on backroads between the two states! I recently got a 996 turbo with 39K miles and I know yours is a 4S but the 996 in general is a great nimble car that will feel right at home on those twisty roads up there! You will love it!

Look at the maturity in your decisions lol! Will, the C4S with that X51 is a great find. It looks clean to me. None of that would scare me away at all. However, I tend to buy cars that do need some love because the price is more favorable and I do the majority of the work. I think you could easily do the maintenance stuff in your garage--especially having the four post. You'd learn more about the car and save yourself some money. Like new suspension bits! These 996's are not hard to learn and wrench on IMHO. Looking forward to future vids. Thanks for dragging us along.

It's a great looking car and the interior looks really clean. Short of a turbo, I think it's the one to have.

Good video. Nice car. I sold my 996 ‘02 Turbo with 22K miles back in ‘08 and the guy just sold it about 6 months ago with 101K miles he had it bumped up to 900 hp and never had a problem with it in those 78K miles and 15 years.

This looks like a great car, with all the right specs. The 996 C4S is the perfect blend of old and new!

I had a 996. I bought it at a local dealer. I didn't know the 996 hate when I bought it. I really liked it but I was kind of surprised the interior wasn't a bit nicer. I really liked the car and had zero issues with it the entire time I had it. I did have to fix the convertible, it was not working when I bought it. Took it to the Porsche dealer and it was under 100 bucks to fix, I got really lucky, try getting out of a Porsche repair for under 100 dollars. The cashier actually called the service rep to make sure, she said she had never seen a bill for under 100. I wish I would have kept it.

Thanks for sharing!! I am about to buy a C4S, so this was extremely useful, especially with knowing what to expect from my PPI!!

Those bores are fine by Lokasil standards. Mine have similar markings, and coming from an air-cooled Nikasil plated engine it’s still pains me to see it, but if you reject a car based on that state of wear you will end up rejecting them all. Range 2 over-revs can only come from miss-shifting, I also have like 4 ignitions in that range, it’s a spurious reading according to my Porsche specialist. Real miss shift immediately is in dozens.

About 4 years ago I purchased a 40th anniversary 996. Changed out the IMS bearing new tires and an updated radio with bluetooth and backup camera. It has been a wonderful dependable car. My plan is to keep and drive it forever.
