I discovered you can pop them like popcorn to remove the shells easily. I have a chestnut roasting bucket with holes, put them in there. We hang it on a hook over the fire and I turn them every so often so they don’t burn. Wondering if I can do this and then leech.
Though I’m afraid we can’t let them cool down or the Tannins will be stuck in the acorn. It’s important not to cool them with fresh water, you do need two pots to boil them.

For raw chestnuts we let them dry out near the fireplace or wood stove a little til you can press in the outter shells (meaning they’ve just started to dry and shrink). This is the perfect spot between dry and fresh to eat raw chestnuts. Both shells will peel super easily. I wonder if the same will happen to acorns.
I’m gonna harvest a lot of them this year to experiment with

I've been foraging for food and finding it surprisingly easy, relaxing and filling more so than grocery shopping. Today I got loads of acorns to cook too !

Learning to forage has enabled me to snack on my walks and discover routes I can take to maximize my bounty. ❤️🧘🧘🙏

Thank you for this. I love any videos about foraging edible things in the woods.
That mcdonalds joke you threw in made me chuckle. Camping, homesteading and bushcrafting are very rewarding, if you have patience.

I was wondering if i could eat acorns as i was standing under one today, we don't get squirrels here in NZ and they were all over the ground.

Did this guy just say if you're not willing to work for your acorns, you should just go buy a big Mac? 😂

Also the cons of using the hot method is you're cooking out vital nutrients where as the cold method keeps most of the nutrients intact

The squirrels were probably sitting up in the tree watching you boil those.😂😂😂😂😂
