I have both cameras and I agree. I'm surprised how similar they are for both photo and video. The R3 for me is the better hybrid but not worth the upgrade for most people. Saying that it doesn't overheat unless shooting raw or 4K 120, better custom bottoms, body size & shape, seems to have more DR, better battery life & is better low light. The really wish Canon would give us CLOG 1 back and the timelapse Movie feature on the R3. CLOG 3 is so strange to work with

R5 is for croppers.
R3 is for me. Love to get it. But the price.
I would always choose the R3 over megapixels as it is not about mp's.

Had the R5… the overheating killed it for me. And while I was aware that the R5C was coming, I bought the Canon Eos R3. Why? The R3 sports a brand new Canon sensor. The new sensor has superior dynamic range… on par with the C70, all whilst achieving best in class ISO performance… The R3 is the new low light king. Rolling shutter is also low. The rear LCD is the best of any mirrorless body to date. Build quality is DX series good. Just an all round better camera.

As for file sizes, they do not worry me. I’ve been shooting exclusively RAW for years. The argument about lenses makes little sense? Most people getting into a flagship would likely already have been in the system, and already own a few lenses.

I know I’m preaching to the choir… or else why did you buy the R3?

The Sony a7iv seems decent now compared To the R5. No video record time limit 33mp decent AF small and compact but overall I still think the Fuji X100V is the best camera for 80% of the people.

I own both, and i use the R5 more. It take better photos, which is the main reason we get a camera like this. R3 is over priced...

When did you order your R3 and how long did it take until you received it? Just curious, I'm still waiting on mine to show up. Thanks!

I have an R6 and I mainly shoot Semi-Pro and High School Football. I'm looking to upgrade and I'm seriously considering purchasing the R3. I also like shooting Portraits Wildlife, and Landscapes. I'm looking for serious advise before I make this 6k purchase.

The R3 and the R5 are two different types of camera tools. Each photographer must know the limitation to be faced. Knowing that, it's easier to decide which camera to use. Action sports in a diversity of lighting—R3 and for hi-res professional portraits, wide landscapes, and wildlife in better lighting (noise reduction with lower ISO)—R5. Forget about the camera cosmetics . Instead match the technical performance to the applied projects. BTW, some photographers might buy both, just like buying a hoe and a rake for yard work.

My R3 overheated in 10 minutes at 4K 120 while my R5 lasted 25min at 4K 120

The R5 seems like the better option if you aren’t shooting for billboards or something; but then again everyone is a “professional” in his or her own right. Both canon cameras provide good quality pictures, but I have to agree the storage space is what kills most people. You need to invest in good glass and a good PC on top of that camera which bring the total tally mark up to a good 10k if not more. But all in the name of photography right. Good review
