What the Heck is a Hunab-Ku?!

The Ancient Mayans had a mysterious and fascinating culture about them. Their art, spirituality, and designs are especially interesting, and we find many parallells in teachings to other mystic traditions the world over.

This cosmic civilization has so much to teach us, and one of their many lessons is that of the Hunab Ku, a curious glyph which appears to be very similar to a yin-yang. In this video, let us explore it's symbolism, and see what wisdom we might glean from it.

Being Guatemalan I enjoyed your explanation about Hunab Ku. I've followed the Mayan and read the Popol Wuj several times, and I've explained to people who wanted the symbol as a tattoo that it wasn't a Mayan symbol. I'll share your video.

Hunab-Ku is actually a way of greeting each other. By holding hands and aligning fingers, you can form the symbol, representing 'you are me, and I am you.' The Mayans did this as a reminder not to steal or engage in bad business practices—highlighting integrity and mutual respect.

The Maya used 20 for their base count which suggests they were using fingers and toes to count with. That leads to a full body integration and isn't as easy to do as one would think. Try bending the toes one at a time.

Can you do a video on the Olmec? It’s a civilization that has a lot of misrepresented information as well and a lot of sacred knowledge. I’ve watched your videos for a few years now and would love to see something on this topic. Not sure if this will ever get seen though

As someone who is from the maya people I have one question…why didn’t you mention the Popol Vuh? It tells the maya creation story, why we play an ancient ball game, why we hang up corn, what the underworld is like. What the Gods of the underworld are. What God created humans, what came before humans. You can debate and argue back and forth about what they meant by this, but to leave it out entirely leaves out part of the maya beliefs.

The Hunab K'u also represented the 8 major points of time of one year, the 2 Solstice, the 2 Equinox, and the 4 quarter points.

One of the symbols at 4:26 is definitely not the Google chrome symbol.. 😂 All symbols we have presently are stolen or recycled from the past

Great video, I've never heard of this Hunab Ku concept.
Question: what's up with the amazing artwork end-screen? Jw if it's something your team created. (If so, good job)

There is a interplay between here and there. Material and subtle. The underworld. This is not only extremely important in world religions until Abrahamics got big.
The Aztec, Maya, most Americans, were obsessed with the underworld. Not just religiously, like totally obsessed. Saw a jaguar eat someone? That's the underworld poking into the material. The birth of a new life? That's the underworld interacting with this world.
You don't get to be instilled with this framework and not filter the world through it.... Especially if you live in nature

I'm sorry to say, you presented very little actual information on Mayan knowledge, first it's not a religion, HunabKu is not a God. It's more a study of time and the HunabKu symbol represents the understanding of time as a dimension, the cycles of day and night winter and summer etc. All of it is unified and part of one which is a spiral in the middle. You should not view it as a deistic religion, please study the Tzol'kin it's way deeper than you imagine. Thanks for the effort.
