That stitch you did with the brown floss. Why does it look messy like that? What kind of stitch is that even used for? Genuinely curious.

How do I keep my stitches from showing the fabric? I always see gaps between the croses

Wrong on two counts. You can thread your needle so that there are no tails. And use a Qframe on your fabric and you won’t have creases that are hard to iron out.
