Goldberg's a smart guy and doesn't deserve the vitriol in these comments. Conservatives ought not devolve into the lockstep cultish uniformity that defines progressives.

If you're going to be the maturer of the two sides, you have to have a thicker skin and be willing to permit disagreement among teammates. That's what adults do, or should do.

National Review did it all wrong. If their reasons were as Jonah describes, then instead of going "The field, not Trump!"...they should've picked someone to SUPPORT. Say "For Cruz", not "Against Trump".

I dropped NRO over its Never Trumperism culminating in that issue. Unprecedented, Trump’s campaign had to fight a war on two fronts.

He can turn blue in the face, but he chose a single candidate to demonize. The main argument was ‘he isn’t a real Republican’. As if NRO gets to define what a member of the Republican Party is allowed to believe - and has the ability to judge sincerity, which they clearly do not. The issue was a mistake, but egotists - which all of these self proclaimed ‘intellectuals’ are - will never admit to a mistake. Jonah may be very well informed, but information is not intelligence.

He ‘knew’ Trump couldn’t win and would damage the party. He was so willing to let Hillary have the White House, and surrender to the left entirely. Knowing that the rest of the field would have shied away from the only tactics that could have beaten the Hillary campaign - aka the Obama Admin, he still picked the field. He would have had us stuck under 3% growth, socialist tax burdens, and a single payer health system - all based on Trump’s ‘lack of purity’. He deserves zero respect or attention, given the lack of sincerity in his so-called ‘convictions and principles’.
