About Lisa:
"I love to help students unlock their full musical potential. I have taught in a wide variety of settings from Music for Young Children to helping recording artists prepare their songs for the road. I also have specialized experience working with children that struggle with learning, developmental, and physical disabilities. While my background is classical, I’m currently focusing on helping my students play the music they love by ear! I’m excited to be a part of YOUR journey as you learn how to sight-read, play by ear, and progress through musical theory. It is going to be fun!"

If you learn the scales in order going clockwise, it will be easier. This is because you 'keep' the sharps that you have already had in previous scales, then just sharpen the penultimate note that you play as well. eg G major had F sharp (the penultimate note in the scale), so the next scale, D major, will have F sharp, plus the penultimate note in the scale (C sharp). The same rule can be applied to the flats, except you add the fourth note to the ones that have already been flats in previous scales.

The circle of fifths does make it a lot easier to memorize the 24 (a few enharmonic) keys because you just keep going up the dominant and eventually you just make your way up to C. Thanks for the refresher!

Wow the way you explained it made sense when I learned my circle of fifths I learned it without looking at a chart. Starting with C going to G every fifth added a sharp. And I learned playing by ear. But the way you explained it put everything together thank you!

You make it look so easy that you had me convinced I could do this if only I practiced enough each and every day. And then I saw this video and I am like WHAT. FORGET IT. I don't have that much time left. But I am going to still hang around and watch these videos and maybe I will get re-convinced that with enough practice I can do this. Thank you. You are the greatest.

Do. Step up to Re. Step to Mi. Half-step to Fa. Step to So. Step to La. Step to Ti. Half-step to Do. Doesn't matter what note you start with.

Why does A major have 3 sharps in it? Why does C major not have any?

It looks like a wheel with random notes around it and I still don't know which ones go together.

How do you know which notes go together, and how do you if it's supposed to be minor, major, or sharp?
